Before automating a process, carry out a small version yourself with appropriate permission. Notice the exceptions, missing inputs, judgment calls, and follow-up questions. Use those observations to decide which parts can be standardised and which need human attention. Manual work is a learning tool here, not a promise that the service can scale unchanged.

A founder who wants to automate quotation comparisons first compares three quotes manually. She discovers that freight, minimum quantities, and tax treatment are described differently in each one.
