When a task feels foggy, define the next visible action: a verb, an object, and a finish line. This removes a decision you would otherwise have to make while trying to begin. The action should move the work forward, even if the result is rough. Rearranging your task list is not progress on the proposal.
Make the next step small enough to start
“Work on the proposal” is a project. “Write the customer’s problem” is an action.
A small example
Instead of blocking an hour to “sort the website,” a freelancer opens the contact page, tests the form, and writes down where the reply arrives. That reveals the next useful fix.
Keep in mind
Breaking work into pieces helps you start; it does not remove the need to understand the whole problem.
